Jim Rash, who portrays Dean Pelton, has been promoted to a series regular after having a recurring role throughout the first two seasons. Michael K. Williams has been cast as the study group's new biology professor, who is described as a deeply intense character.[8] John Goodman will appear in a multi-episode arc as Vice Dean Laybourne, the head of Greendale's air conditioning repair school, and will be a foe for Dean Pelton. Martin Starr will guest star in the second episode of the season as a political science professor and project advisor when the study group take a Model UN class; with Starr possibly returning later in the season. Series Summary:

Episode Summary:
When a group of arrogant students commandeer the foosball table at school, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) unite to defeat them. Meanwhile, Annie (Alison Brie) accidentally breaks Abed's (Danny Pudi) new limited edition "Dark Knight" DVD and claims that someone broke into the apartment and stole it. Things snowball out of control when Abed thinks he knows who took the DVD and sets about getting it back.
